Our previous version of the favicon generator, that relied on PHP and uploading an image file to a server had a good run. It had created 337088 favicons over the span of its time on the website until we took it down last year. Since then we have been working on a new favicon generator and we are happy to announce that we have added it to the main page of the site again.

The new favicon generator is VERY different from what we used to offer. First off it runs 100% in your browser. There is no uploading an image to our server. Your image never leaves your computer. Second because it runs 100% in your browser we no longer bundle all the files into a zip archive. You can download the sizes you want or need. If you miss one you can come back later generate the images again and download the ones you missed.

Why the change? The move to create the icons in your own browser was made for several reasons. First because we moved the site and archives to Astro and we could no longer run the old way. Second because Javascript has come a long way from when we first created this site and now offers the ability to do it this way. It is faster, easier and 100% private for you and less risk for us.
